STORY

A story of inherited bloodline and rotating protagonists.

Many people may find JoJo complicated when considering the over 100 volumes of the manga, the many arcs, and the various protagonists. Some arcs even have different titles, and prospective readers may not know where to begin.
"JoJo's Bizarre Adventure" began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1987. It follows the fates of Jonathan Joestar and his enemy, Dio Brando. The battle is not settled in Jonathan's generation, but continues for over 100 years, involving his descendants as well, which is why the protagonist and the setting change over time.

A "hymn to humanity" that depicts human pride and courage.

In part one, Dio gains the power of immortality through the mysterious Stone Masks. In the second part, the antagonists are the Pillar Clan, who created the Stone Masks. In the third part, the Clan's sworn enemy awakens from a 100-year slumber to stand in the way of the protagonists of the past. Each of the villainous factions are powerful and terribly fascinating in their own ways.
The protagonist of the first-generation is the proud Jonathan Joestar; the protagonist of the second-generation is Joseph Joestar, who excels at mind games; and the protagonist of the third-generation is Jotaro Kujo, who puts actions before words. They each face off against the final bosses of their respective arccs. The name of the story comes from the first syllable of the protagonists' names: JO-nathan JO-star becomes "JoJo", hence the name "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure."
The theme of the work is a "hymn to humanity." The characters in "JoJo" stick firm to their own ideals, whether good or evil. Regardless of the characters' alignments, the story depicts the spirit of overcoming fear and the courage to face difficulties as a major theme.
