"By the deployment of face guards, even the change in the expression of the phantom has been reproduced"

――This NXEDGE STYLE will be the first three-dimensional commercialization of the Phantom, the main character of "Mobile Suit Crossbone Gundam Ghost" (hereafter referred to as "Ghost").

Hasegawa:Well, it's cool! Even though I was the author, I looked at it from a fan's point of view, saying, "This is good." It's powerful and looks bad, doesn't it? It is also good that the elements that "actually have a mighty power" and "looks bad", which are the charms of the giant robot that I think, are reproduced. And it is an open hand part with a facial expression. Thanks to this, you can take poses from the start-up pose to the pose that prevents the enemy's attack in the I field, so I think that it is a perfect item to display.

-Also, because NXEDGE STYLE is a large-headed arrange design, the creation of the phantom face is also very detailed.

Hasegawa:I agree. The details are also sculpted, but you can reproduce the opening and closing of the face guard by replacing the parts. The Phantom has a fearless Gundam face when the face guard is closed, but when the face is opened, it becomes a demonic, angry expression. Since he's a mecha, he shouldn't have that kind of expression, but since he's a cartoon character, I thought it would be better to show his emotions since "Mobile Suit Crossbone Gundam". I drew the face guard to slide up and down so that the eyes of the machine would narrow and I could feel the facial expression, so I am very grateful that this Phantom reproduces that in the product. Just like the author intended (laughs).

- To be sure, Mr. Hasegawa's drawing MS is stronger than "inorganic character" rather than "inorganic character" impression.

Hasegawa:In fact, Zaku is the starting point. Thanks to the movement of mono eye, Zaku makes eye line = character character. I was trying to bring it to the leading role machine somehow. The result was the directing at the faceguard opening and closing of "Crossbone Gundam".

- Phantom Lite Clear parts are also abundantly used for reproducing the state of activation.

Hasegawa:It is amazing. It is quite impressive that this amount of clear parts is packed. I am looking forward to the product version, which will be born when the aircraft's green and pink light overlap. Especially phantom is the character which is completed only by activating phantom light. What should I do to surprise my fans anymore after the "Crossbone" X character thruster? It was a phantom that I was born at the end of thinking much, so I am glad that the first three-dimensional object is finished as a good touch.

- Initially, the phantom seems to have had a lot of difficulty in designing.

Hasegawa:I had a hard time, because it is a wonderful design to understand the X thruster that Kataki Hajime thought as "crossbone" at a glance. But let's say that the phantom is the name first, let 's carry something like a ghostly funny shape, but what exactly did you get funny? (Laugh). Starting with that kind of feeling, finally the design has settled to this point. The hardships, I have strong thoughts.

"I was amazed at the fusion of deformum = boy's heart and detail = adult heart"

NXEDGE STYLE

―― It seems that the supervisor was also in charge at NXEDGE STYLE, but please tell me if there is a point that Mr. Hasegawa kept in mind at that time.

Hasegawa:I have supervised with a focus on making sure that the phantom's "axis as a character" does not shake. We have entrusted the bandai to pursue the coolness of the product, such as the unique deformation of the NXEDGE STYLE and the change and addition of details. In the case of manga pictures, there are parts that are difficult to read in 3D, so I feel like I'm going to make 3D while following information that is missing.

―― Mr. Hasegawa has a deep knowledge of hobbies and toys from the beginning, but what kind of impression did you have in the new category of NXEDGE STYLE?

Hasegawa:When I was a child, there were no famous deformation figures yet. Since it is after "SD Gundam" that the number increases explosively, I was looking at it while analyzing from the adult eyes already. The reason why children enlarge their minds when drawing pictures of characters is because they "draw large areas of interest", and in a word, I think that the deformation is "playing a boy's mind". On the other hand, isn't it a 'play for the heart of an adult' that cuts down on the details? NXEDGE STYLE is a fusion of the two without a sense of incompatibility. I'm looking at it strangely that the adult's sense of detail, the arrangement to suit the times, and the boy's heart's proportions are in a three-dimensional format. Also, in order to widen the range of motion, I heard that the parts of the waist are soft material, and I am quite surprised. The idea of expanding the range of motion with the combination of materials is great. Weapons can be exchanged, and there are optional parts, and I am impressed that one pose in the play can be handled with this one. And above all, while being arranged such as the face guard, the character is commercialized without blur. That's the nicest point to be involved in the supervision.

- Even those who are actually designing are also very attentive to Robo's stereoscopic reproduction by Professor Hasegawa, and another work by the teacher, "Rengeki Die Sword" (Note) is also referred to That's right.

Interview Articles NXEDGE STYLE [MS UNIT] Phantom Gundam Commemorative Commemoration "Crossbone Gundam Ghost" Author Yuichi Hasegawa Interview

Hasegawa:With the same green mechanism (laugh). By the way, the phantom color of the aircraft is green is because "Green was the most surprised" in various tests. When I showed it to the Gundam Ace editorial department, I was asked "Why is it green?", But there were no Gundams that suffered color in the magazine at that time, and eventually they all calmed down and grew green. As there is no horn before the phantom light is activated, the design that it looks like a Gundam as it is at first appearance was difficult though.

Note: School fantasy work by Yuichi Hasegawa. Humanoid gigantic weapon called "Weapons of God" has appeared, and the one-piece main character "Daisoode" in it has a green body color.

"To draw the sequel of my favorite" Gundam ", do not just end with copying."

- Then hit Mobil Suit, which Mr. Hasegawa wants to commercialize, to Bandai here!

Interview Articles NXEDGE STYLE [MS UNIT] Phantom Gundam Commemorative Commemoration "Crossbone Gundam Ghost" Author Yuichi Hasegawa Interview

Hasegawa:That's because I already have a phantom, I want cross-bones Gundam next to it, XO ... I think that there is a need for mass production machines Batala, rival Quavase, or Desfiz. I want you to realize not only the NXEDGE STYLE. After all "Gundam" is one of the attractiveness that it has the same scale and format, and many enemies and allies have characters. In order to reproduce a battle scene with toys and reproduce a dream co-star on the table, it would be nice to see not only a protagonist but also an enemy aircraft, a mobile suit that is not a Gundam type either.

- Incidentally, did Mr. Hasegawa think of these enemy MS mobilesuit design as well?

Hasegawa:Yes. At the time of "Crossbone · Gundam", the original plan was made all together. Mr. Katoki gathered Batala and Rasubosu Divinidad, which was decided to use for a long time in the future, but it is safe to say that the rest is my design. Although there are places like something like clinching other aircraft while taking advantage of the detail of Batara. Basically, I am designing a mobile suits on my side after the work. I think that there is a better person if you are stuffing the details of the mechanism, but since the man of a cartoonist enters from the character nature of looking, the design methodology of the mobile suit may be different from the others. Basically it is monochrome, in a manga without voice, how to show the charm of mobile suits, features a silhouette of the head, makes a wonderful habitual weapon, evolves in that direction Results that have been linked to now.

- Hasegawa sensei The first "Gundam" work, 27 years since "Mobile Suit VS VS Legendary Giant Strikes Back Gatagite" in 1990 ... It is long.

Hasegawa:Almost 30 years. From the first Gundam I saw when I was in high school, it's all about "Gundam". However, in any industry, it is rare to start thinking, "I will continue for 30 years" from the beginning. Each time, if you try hard to make something good, it will be chained well and it will continue over and over. It's a hindsight, but I think that's the case from the origin of "Mobile Suit Gundam". However, since I'm involved in a sequel to a work I like, I've challenged myself to make it with the same spirit as the people who made the original, and that it shouldn't end up being a copy. If that worked for a better future, then I'm very glad I did. I'm sorry that sometimes I protrude from the frame (laughs).

"It was" pirate Gundam "that" Gundam "was born to advance to the next stage"

Interview Articles NXEDGE STYLE [MS UNIT] Phantom Gundam Commemorative Commemoration "Crossbone Gundam Ghost" Author Yuichi Hasegawa Interview

Hasegawa:When I explain my work to people, I say "an old manga sent in a new work". Although it announces newly, the format is an old boys' cartoon taste. Better or bad, it is my own originality. As soon as the content of "Gundam" increases, there is no momentum if there is no one to do somewhat different things, so it is a feeling that I am allowed even if I stay.

- But at the time of "Crossbone Gundam", it seems that it was a challenge to the unknown when the base of a wide variety of "Gundam" works such as present had not spread yet.

Hasegawa:This is my personal impression, but I feel that the first half of the 1990s was a time when internal pressure was building, saying, "We have to break the boundaries of 'Gundam'." In 1994, "Mobile Fighter G Gundam", which was not the Universal Century, was born, and on the other hand, "Pirate Gundam" appeared as an extension of the Universal Century.
I think that it may have been an inevitable event for "Gundam" to advance to the next stage.
But I was also surprised when I saw the original work by Yoshiyuki Tomino that I received at the time. If the enemy in "Mobile Suit Gundam F91" is "Crossbone Vanguard" and it's called "Crossbone Gundam", then I have no choice but to draw a skull on Gundam's forehead. But is it okay to do that even though it's "Gundam"? (laughs) I had that kind of confusion at first. So if Director Tomino hadn't given us the original work, "Crossbone Gundam" might have turned out to be a small work. Mr. Tomino, the creator of "Gundam", has the strength to step on the accelerator with all his might, and I think I received it.

――By the way, it seems that the spelling of "Crossbone" has changed in the currently serialized "Mobile Suit Crossbone Gundam DUST"...

Hasegawa:Up to now it is "CROSS BONE", and now it is "CROSS BORN". There is also a feeling that pirates are limits already (laugh), meaning is different if the same "bone" spells differently. It's fun to play with words. "DUST" is a warring country thing, so it is an image that something different will come born.

- Finally, please give your message to the readers.

Hasegawa:Thank you so much for enjoying and reading the work. I think that the work can be enjoyed more when the mobile suit under construction becomes a three-dimensional object like this. The phantom of the NXEDGE STYLE is also very good, so please take a look at it. It is also recommended from the author. If you are a manga, I will try to do my best to expand your efforts again. (Laughs) Thank you in the future, with the feeling that if you let go of your eyes, you're going to be insane.
