2020-08-21 18:30 Update
On August 22nd, "ROBOT SPIRITS <SIDE GHOST> Tachikoma -Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045-" will finally go on sale! Art director Teruhisa Tajima is in charge of the image photos used for the package of the same product. Speaking of Mr. Tajima, in addition to designing jackets for various artists, he also worked on the logos of successive anime versions of "Ghost in the Shell" up to "Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045" and "Mobile Police PATLABOR". Also known as a designer. In this "Interview Articles", Mr. Tajima talks about the logo design of "Ghost in the Shell" and "ROBOT SPIRITS <SIDE GHOST> Tachikoma -Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045-".
--First, please tell us about the logo design of “Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045”.
Tajima:"Ghost in the Shell" has been involved in the design of posters and packages since the The Movie directed by Mamoru Oshii. The title logo for "Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045" was designed under the supervision of Kenji Kamiyama and Shinji Aramaki. At the idea stage, we proposed many logos with different images than before, but I felt that the director wanted an image linked to the "STAND ALONE COMPLEX" logo, so the design feels like it has evolved. summarized in. In a broad sense, we aimed to create a logo that is Asian and innovative, and that makes the old kanji design look modern.
--In "Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045", the design of Tachikoma has been redesigned. What was your impression of the new Tachikoma, including how it was depicted in the play?
Tajima:I think Tachikoma is characterized by its biological shape and movement reminiscent of spiders and other insects, but this time I got the impression of beetles such as beetles and stag beetles. Looking at the performance in the play, I feel that I am more aggressive and more agile in movement. The impression is, "I've become much stronger than the first Tachikoma, which was like a "damaged character"."
――Please tell us the points about the image cut of the ROBOT SPIRITS that you worked on this time.
Tajima:Based on the episode of "Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045", I chose the city of "Los Angeles in battle with scattered debris" as the situation. Against the backdrop of a gray and achromatic background of the "destroyed city", the still intact blue Tachikoma in the sun are looking for something. The only colors that exist in the world are the sky and the blue of Tachikoma, so I think that the painting is more blue.
――Please tell us about your impressions and impressions of Tachikoma in the ROBOT SPIRITS.
Tajima:First of all, I was surprised that the standing condition of each edge was fine and sharp. I think that the coloring also reproduces the deep and difficult blue well. When posing, the range of motion of each part is large, various movements can be pushed in, and it is appreciated that it stops firmly. It was very helpful during the shoot. This Tachikoma is solid and crispy, and I felt a new charm as a figure.
--Thank you.
