Product Development Manager
Introducing a day in the life!

Career RecruitmentSecond year at the company

In his previous job, he was in charge of production management at a chemical manufacturer. He applied because he was interested in characters and TAMASHII NATIONS products.

Job satisfaction

I feel a sense of accomplishment when I see the product's level of completion increasing as it moves from the sample stage of creating the mold for the product to mass production. I feel excited when a product that I put my heart and soul into receives positive feedback from users after it is released!

  • 9:30go to the office

I had a cup of coffee and checked my email to refresh my mind. Last night, I received an updated quotation from the production factory in Island China, so I carefully checked the details to make sure there were no discrepancies with the product specifications.

  • 10:00Prototype confirmation meeting

A meeting was held where the planning staff checked the prototypes made by the sculptor and identified any concerns that might arise during mass production. It was fun to be able to touch the prototypes of my favorite characters, but it was difficult to decide which parts I should check in detail, so I am currently studying while listening to the comments of my veteran superiors!

  • 12:00lunch

I go to the company cafeteria or out to eat with my team members to refresh myself. When I'm in a rush, I sometimes buy a bento and eat it at my desk...!

  • 13:00Creating packaging specifications

We take into account the wishes of the planning staff and consider the best arrangement and thickness of packaging specifications. We also consider materials according to the weight of the parts so that they can withstand shipping both domestically and overseas. It is important to create clear documents that are easy for the factory to understand.

  • 14:00Development progress meeting

Meetings are held to check the progress of products. Dozens of products are released every month. Since the meetings are held on Teams, you can participate from home! If the product you are in charge of falls behind schedule, you can consult with senior employees to find out how to adjust the delivery date without compromising quality.

  • 15:00Check the submitted material

I check the package data and instruction manual data that arrives by email and add corrections and comments. I create them together with external designers.

  • 16:00Meeting with manufacturer

We hold meetings online or in our in-house conference room while looking at actual samples. We check in detail whether the corrections we instructed last time have been made correctly and whether the color is as specified. The difficult part is that we have to consider the balance between delivery date and cost.

  • 17:00Checking email, etc.

I respond to emails and check issues that come up during meetings. I get to work by consulting with people from various sections of the company, including not only the development team but also the planning and quality control departments, so I feel like I'm learning something new every day.

  • 18:00Getting ready to leave work

Time passed quickly and I was preparing to go home. I chatted with my senior team members and discussed my plans to come to the office on a flextime basis! I will be going on a business trip to an overseas factory next month to check on the production situation, so I also discussed the schedule.

  • 18:30Leave the company

Today I went to Yurakucho for dinner with a friend from my previous workplace! I can create my own schedule based on the progress of item I'm in charge of, so it's easy to plan my personal schedule as well.
