The story begins when Masamune Okumura, an ordinary high school boy who loves the 2D character Liliel, meets a first-year named Ririsa Amano who also loves Liliel and wants to become her. Ririsa asks Okumura to help her with a cosplay photo shoot, where he realizes how passionate cosplayers are, understands feelings they each have, and how they grow as they overcome various difficulties. So begins the story of passionate youth in the world of cosplay, where reality (3D) and fiction (2D) intersect.
