MAZINKAISER was created fot the "Super Robot Wars" game series as the strongest evolved version of MAZINGER Z! Since 2001, the Super Robot fans' long-awaited anime adaptation, the seven-episode OVA "Mazinkaiser" and its sequel, the OVA "Great General of Darkness" have also been produced. Featuring the same voice actor (Hiroya Ishimaru) for the protagonist, Koji Kabuto, as in the original "MAZINGER Z," the series has resonated with the MAZINGER fans of yesteryear. "MAZINKAISER's Theme," the song that plays at the climax of the series, is sung by Ichiro Mizuki and is popular among the fans.
