SHFiguarts "Freddie Mercury" commercialization decision commemoration
"Tamashii Digital Coloring Technology created by Takumi" special talk
「S.H.Figuartsフレディ・マーキュリー」の2016年3月発売決定を記念して、制作に携わった株式会社エムアイシーの原型師 K.O氏と3Dデータデザイナー 二条忠則氏によるクロストークが実現。
I asked about the latest "digital coloring technology".
■ The task of collecting it on the face that looks like Freddie was quite difficult.
--When recreating Freddie Mercury's face with "Tamashii Digital Coloring Technology Technology"
Please tell us points and features that you are particularly careful about.
K.O:It was a difficult part to capture the characteristics of the skeleton. Because it is a skeleton of an Indian person, not a skeleton of an oriental person who is usually familiar. It was similar to trying to fit only the face, there were things that the feature appeared when made from the back of the head.
Nijo:I watched various things such as concert videos, I studied so that I can observe the position of the eyebrows and moles, wrinkles etc. well and reflect it in the data. After heel (haha). The growing condition of beard differs according to age, and it varies according to the season and every image. But it is a trademark so I stick to it.
K.O:The shadow under the eyes was characteristic. It falls into a triangle, or it is a characteristic of a person with a deep sculpture.
Nijo:Regarding this time's figure, in 1986 Wembley Stadium images and images*I refer to Band - Aid 's thing, but I tried to reproduce the atmosphere of Freddie that I was at that time. I pay particular attention to where the nose is high and the way the shadow enters differs between the right and the left.
※Band-Aid: A charity project formed in 1984 by UK and Irish rock / pop star super stars gathered.
■ Beard was pretty stuck, did not it?
- Freddie is a feature of a makeup like a woman, but how about expression of makeup?
K.O:Freddie is darker in makeup, and emphasizes his eyes clearly.
Nijo:Due to the convenience of digital printing technology, there are risks that cause various risks, and while considering how to avoid that side, we made data with caution so that Freddie's make-up and skin shadows can be reproduced tightly .
K.O:Personally, I think that the feeling of that blue beard was important in terms of realism.
Nijo:Yeah. I was pretty stuck with beards. I made it with the momentum of not being able to draw one by one (laugh). Also, unexpectedly the hole of the nose is noticeable, I was sticking to research and reproduce as much as I had ever seen Freddie's face in my life so far.
K.O:It is a difficult part to catch features of the nose. It is a model that looks nothing compared to eyes and mouth, in fact it is a point that features are out. I think that it was a very great merit that the place where two people were close together and made it close together.
Nijo:It was quite a challenge to collect the content that should be inserted in the face of about 2 cm and the contents to be omitted, together in a face that seems to be Freddy firmly while selecting it well. It will be a company secret story, but it is not that easy to do.
- I ask that "eye line" and "expression of eyes" are important points for directing real feeling. Please let me know about that.
Nijo:Since it is an action figure, it studied how to use the gaze without discomfort when playing. I am sticking to the data of the eyes by the facial expressions, such as when shouting.
K.O:Regarding the shout face, it is a place I was concerned about when I saw it for hands, whether that singing voice could be imagined from there or included singing voice in that form.
Nijo:I am opening my throat! That's the face.
K.O:That face was the most reputable.
Nijo:I was making it while singing (laugh). While watching the movement of the mouth and the flow of the facial muscle.
■ The technology that I have been researching for many years is concentrated in SHFiguarts.
- The quality and progress of a real figure of about 6 inches in size including Freddie are remarkable in recent years.
K.O:I think that the way the user gradually became real oriented, the technology of digital printing caught up with it, and I think that how to capture the real thing has become one of the selling of (figures). With that size (6 inches) without impairing realism, I still feel that figures that move well and have improved in recent years.
Nijo:It is easy to say "I do not look like something", but in fact it is the most important thing to notice.
K.O:The making person has to solve that "something", is not it?
Nijo:When a first impression such as "It looks like" or "cool"! Is attached, the figure's value changes with Gun, so we ask for something that really came out of the screen rather than supplementing it in the head of the customer It is done.
K.O:There is an excitement that you can freely move big stars that anyone knows in your hand.
Nijo:Digital printing technology was introduced to SHFiguarts recently, but the technology that I have been researching for many years is concentrated in SHFiguarts. Also, I was really into the fact that a realistic face was placed on a figure of a size that could be colored appropriately. The producers also feel that it has become extremely valuable.
- What moments are you happy as a creator in the process of making a real figure?
K.O:It is decided when I output it with a 3D printer and let me stand upstairs! I think it is a great happy moment for me personally.
Nijo:As a work of 3D data, repeated tests of printing, there is impression every time it fits perfectly with shaping.
K.O:Regarding Freddie, it was a way that looked more like the first shot, did not he?
■ I can challenge various things using digital coloring technology other than face
――From the perspective of the creator, what is the future of SHFiguarts and digital coloring technology?
Nijo:Technically, coordination between prototype and digital coloring can be taken, and things that are really amazing even in ourselves have also come up at the prototype level. Production technology also improves steadily, so I think that there are parts that can challenge various things using digital coloring technology other than face.
K.O:Even in a short period of time I am getting much quality and I have to go up (myself), so I'd like to expect it myself.
Nijo:Among the movable real figures, we have created such good contents, so I would like to make full use of the good points of SHFiguarts, the figures and the art part, to make things that are more satisfying to our customers.
- Finally, please give Freddie Mercury figures a highlight!
K.O:Freddie is a point that I tried hard, but I'm studying specs that will definitely move in accordance with other figures, so I definitely want you to experience the hands.
Nijo:Both of them are not Queen's generations, but I'd like people to receive impressions from the (Queen) generation who received figures that such two people made with all their strength. I hope to have fun with your hands, such as face and movable points.
--Thank you very much!
