Metal Armor Dragonar

What is "Metal Armor Dragonar" and "Dragner 1 Custom"?

The Sunrise production "Metal Armor Dragonar" (broadcast from February 1987 to January 1988) is the pinnacle of realistic robot animation that dominated the 1980s. The appeal of mecha is many and varied. The conceptual artwork by mecha designer Kunio Okawara has created Dragner's form and detail using the most refined linework, drawn from his experience working on numerous realistic robot anime designs. The stylish silhouettes drawn by animator Masami Ōbari, who gained popularity for his work on the opening and main sequences, has also made a strong impression as the pioneer of animation in the 1980s.
Past merchandising attempts, including those by TAMASHII NATIONS, have often used these two extremes as motifs, but this HI-METAL R version features the "thick-boned realistic sci-fi mecha" aspects that are vital to the essence of the Dragonar. This figure is the largest ever produced by TAMSHII NATIONS, at 1/100th scale and approximately 170mm in height, and is the embodiment of the "up to date" design of the current Dragonar, using the latest technologies.

Armor deployment gimmick-Visualization of internal structure-

The internal mechanics of the body-frame structure are expressed with a gimmick that opens and closes to deploy the armor. While most of the "armor detachment" reproductions in past products have been "factory overhauls," HI-METAL R uses an exposed mechanism that is more reminiscent of "on-site maintenance." Not only is it a new interpretation that pushes the design forward, it also recreates the abdominal cockpit deployment and hatch opening/closing as depicted in the anime. It is a specification that truly pushes the mechanical gimmicks of the Dragonar to its limits.

"Real" as a humanoid mobile weapon that flies in the sky

Among the many works that depict military science fiction, "Metal Armor Dragonar" incorporated many "aircraft" motifs. HI-METAL R updates the details on each part of the body, working backwards from the aircraft-like detailing of the units represented by the back Lifters. The silhouette as Dragonar does not lose any of its original impact, while the realistic details are convincing enough to make it a state-of-the-art robotic action figure.

HI-METAL R

Based on the respect for the historic HI-METAL series, this brand rebuilds and renews products with the latest in technology while retaining the "transformation" and "composite material" elements that make up the series.

From the culmination of real robots in the 80's "Metal Armor Dragonar", the main character "Dragner 1 Custom" appears in a completely new form with a new interpretation!
