The S.H.Figuarts Legend Collection utilizes cutting-edge digital coloring technology!
Replicating the nuances of a real human being's expressions and features isn't like that of an anime character, which is why we turned to digital coloring techniques for this figure.
First, we created 3D scan data from a base model sculpted after thoroughly examining photos and footage of Michael in "Moonwalker." (1)
Then, we prepared a digital "coloring master" that reflected all of the subtle color gradations, and used it to make printing data (2)
Finally, we 3D printed and further adjusted the sculpt, then used the printing data to apply the ink almost as though we were printing on paper, and used this as the basis for manufacturing the figures. (3)
(1) A model was 3D scanned and used to create 3D data for making molds for the product. (2)The coloring master was converted to image data. This was further adjusted and then prepped into printing data that was used to apply color to the model. (3)A prototype sample that has been digitally colored.
